Color Inspiration
So many colors so little time. Color selections can change any piece of art work. After researching pattern designers and what makes a pattern sellable, I began looking at the colors usually found in the “sellable art “ category. Think sunny skies, luscious berries, and beautifully coordinated complimentary colors in well balanced compositions.
What makes a piece of art commercial and sellable? who determines this?
Lots of selling data, and proven marketing theories.
No wonder a lot of great artwork is missed. when out in the “commercial” or retail market. In a world where we need to make money to keep our businesses alive , we also should remember that our personal tastes determine this marketability. It doesn’t mean that “unsellable” artwork is bad, it is just different than what the mass population likes or what has been determined to sell based on the occurrence of selling data. There are obviously other factors, experienced professionals have an eye for spotting flaws in art, for knowing what has been successful in the past or what could work in home decor or other retail segments.
I do know that this human being loves color, we all love beautiful flowers in an array of colors, sometimes too many colors clashing in one place, but still admired as they catch our eye.
Let’s forget all of that for now.
Let’s just look and enjoy the masterpieces below and examine the colors found in each piece. Here are a few favorite color swatches selected from famous random artworks that you can use as inspo in your next project. (I do not guarantee marketability, ha ha.) Enjoy!
